Holistic and alternative therapy approaches are a range of healing practices that prioritize the integration of mind, body, and spirit–such as meditation, yoga, and energy healing. These therapies differ from traditional therapy methods as they consider the individual as a whole and address the root causes of physical or emotional imbalances. Seeking alternative and holistic therapies offers a personalized approach to your well-being. With your therapist, you will explore methods that align with your values and beliefs, fostering a sense of empowerment in their health journey. We will work with you to address your specific health and wellness goals, ensuring a tailored and informed approach with your entire well-being at the forefront. 

With the understanding that different healing modalities, individuals of all ages can benefit from these approaches. We understand that counseling and traditional psychotherapy do not benefit everyone. Therefore, we take great effort and care in finding the right therapeutic approach for you. We specialize in some holistic and alternative therapies, but not all. To further encourage your healing journey, we have provided you with alternative resources within the community of additional holistic and alternative healing practices. 

Anyone can benefit from these approaches! Holistic methods offer a different way to heal, grow, and bloom into the best version of yourself. Here at Marriage and Family Focus, we know that not all counseling/therapy methods work for everyone. That is why we try to our best to offer as many different healing modalities as we can. We have connected to experienced individuals in the community who practice these approaches. They are skillful and knowledgeable and can help you climb to new heights in your healing journey.

Somatic experiencing therapy:

Understanding your body's reaction to trauma plays a key role in integrating and healing from traumatic experiences. Somatic Experiencing therapy is the practice in which individuals learn to communicate using "sensation language" or a mind-body approach to access the brain's involuntary functioning to heal trauma. This alternative therapy approach guides individuals in expanding awareness through sensation rather than thoughts. With the belief that trauma and stress get “trapped” inside the body, this method works to release these sensations for better comfort. Your therapist will guide you through a framework to understand and recognize the sensations within your body with guided questions, imagery, observing behavioral responses, and forming meaning to your body’s reaction to your trauma and chronic pain. Your therapist will put your comfort at the forefront by ensuring tools with your increased sense of awareness to prevent you from feeling overwhelmed throughout the process. Somatic Experiencing therapy offers a pathway to profound healing, self-discovery, and a renewed sense of well-being.
